Uru Community Secondary School is a newly established secondary school in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania, founded by NEEMA International. The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and visionary Head of School / English Teacher to help lead and shape our school from its early stages. This role combines instructional leadership with classroom teaching and is ideal for an experienced educator who is passionate about mentoring, collaboration, and whole-child development.
The successful candidate will teach English at the secondary level while also overseeing academic quality, supporting staff development, and contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture. This is a leadership role with the opportunity to make a lasting impact on both students and teachers.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Teach secondary-level English using engaging, creative, and student-centered approaches
- Design and deliver lessons that promote critical thinking, communication, and curiosity
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support growth
Academic Leadership & School Management
- Oversee and review teachers’ lesson plans, classroom instruction, and assessment practices
- Support and mentor teaching staff to ensure high standards of teaching and learning
- Observe classrooms regularly and provide professional guidance and feedback
- Help develop and implement academic policies, curricula, and school routines
- Collaborate with NEEMA International leadership to support school development and growth
School Culture & Community
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful school environment
- Lead by example in professionalism, empathy, and collaboration
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, and the wider community
- Support a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
Student Wellbeing & Development
- Promote social-emotional learning and mental health awareness
- Create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel heard and respected
- Encourage creativity, individuality, and personal responsibility
- Support students’ academic, emotional, and social development
Qualifications & Experience
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Holds a degree in Education, English, or a related field
- Has experience in school leadership or academic coordination (required)
- Demonstrates strong instructional knowledge and modern, student-centered teaching practices
- Values mental health, empathy, and whole-child education
- Is adaptable, open-minded, and excited to help build a growing school
- Enjoys working closely with students and staff in a community-focused environment
Experience in international or developing-school contexts is an advantage, but not required.
