Responsibilities or duties

HSE Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards at the workplace to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company standards. The role aims to create a safe workplace, minimize risks, prevent accidents, and promote environmental sustainability across all operations.

What you’ll be doing:

Health & Safety Management:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and programs to align with company goals.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international HSE laws, regulations, and standards specific to the manufacturing sector (e.g., OSHA & ISO).
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments for manufacturing processes, machinery and materials.
  • Evaluate and improve safety measures for new manufacturing equipment or processes.
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify potential safety risks during production, machine operation, and maintenance.
  • Identify hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor safety performance and ensure continuous improvement initiatives are implemented.
  • Lead accidents, incidents, and near-miss investigations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Oversee the safety of hazardous materials handling and storage (e.g., chemicals, flammables).
  • Ensure emergency response plans are in place, updated, and tested regularly.
  • Coordinate with department heads to integrate HSE requirements into daily operation.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify unsafe practices, equipment, or conditions within manufacturing facilities.

Environmental Management:

  • Ensure environmental compliance with relevant legislation and company objectives.
  • Monitor waste management, pollution control, emissions, and resource conservation practices.
  • Promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices in the workplace.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments when necessary.

Training & Awareness:

  • Develop and deliver HSE training, inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
  • Develop and deliver targeted HSE training programs for operators, technicians, and supervisors, including PPE use, machine safety, and hazard communication.
  • Promote a strong safety culture among employees and contractors through toolbox talks, workshops, and safety campaigns.
  • Advise managers and employees on safe work practices and legal requirements.

Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Track KPIs such as incident rates, lost time injuries, training completion, and audit findings.
  • Prepare and present monthly HSE performance reports to management, including metrics such as incident rates, safety violations, and environmental KPIs.
  • Analyze HSE data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, external auditors, and clients on HSE matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, audits, and training sessions.

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Lead and mentor HSE officers.
  • Support management in setting HSE goals and performance targets.
  • Participate in management meetings and provide strategic HSE guidance.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of ISO-related documentation to ensure compliance with relevant standards in line with Documentation Coordinator.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and meets certification requirements.

HSE Budget:

  • Create and manage the annual HSE budget, ensuring alignment with company priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • Track and analyze budget performance, providing regular updates and recommendations for adjustments.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Proven experience of 6 years in Manufacturing industry or a similar.
  • Proven experience in HSE management, budgeting, and ISO standards.
  • Excellent risk assessment and incident investigation skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional certification in HSE or Safety Management is preferred (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities to coordinate cross-functional teams.
