RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Campaigns:
- Work directly with campaign managers to develop visual concepts for marketing campaigns.
- Create and evaluate the layout and visuals for every campaign, taking into account the Ubongo brand consistency while choosing fonts, images, readability, and reader demands.
- Support with design of communication and marketing campaigns targeted at our B2C and B2B audience Including:
- Graphics that support Akili and Me season 5 campaign activities
- Graphics to promote playroom app campaign
- Graphics to support Ubongo annual roadshows
- Brand guidelines and assets:
- Collaborate with the campaign manager in ensuring that all branding guidelines, templates, and materials are current, obtainable, and consistent with the brand.
- Ensure that Akili and Me, Nuzo and Namia, Ubongo Kids, Playroom brand assets and resources for brand manuals, canvas, and Google Drive are evaluated and updated on a quarterly basis
- Merchandise: Create and mockup designs for merchandise for internal and external use.
- Liaise with external printers/ designers or production teams to ensure deadlines are met and material is printed or presented to the highest quality.
- 20 new merchandise designs for online stores
- Illustrations: Collaborate closely with the external team to produce original illustrations of characters, objects, graphic components, and backdrops for any of the Ubongo brands.
- Lead in briefing external design team and review illustrations
- Design graphic components that be reused in different layouts
- 10 new character poses
- Photos: Collaborate with the audio and video producer to select, mock-up and upload photos that feature a character relevant to the scene.
- Design 100 new images with cartoons monthly
- Print materials: Work with the education team and design educational posters for distribution.
- Design 3-4 A3 posters showing;
- Syllables, simple word, simple sentences, simple stories to measure comprehension
- sounds of items or animals kwa upande wa kusoma
- Numeracy skills- counting up to 1000 by using items, simple addition- one to three digits, simple subtraction one to three digits, c, color and shapes.
- Presentations and infographics: Work with senior strategic comms manager to design infographics and presentations
- 12 B2B infographics
- 2025 Annual report design
- Branding for events: Work with senior strategic comms manager to design branding for upcoming stakeholder events
- Design branding for 2-6 stakeholder events held in key markets in Q2
REQUIREMENT:
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIALS:
- Broad knowledge of design principles and experience as a graphic designer with evidence of work.
- Excellent graphic design skills, with the ability to refine designs with illustration software in accordance with our brand.
- Ability to digitally illustrate drawings from scratch isn’t a requirement but definitely a BONUS.
- Great time management and are a skilled task juggler. There is a LOT going on at Ubongo, and your job is to keep up with the demands!
- Great written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili
- Tech-savvy and able to quickly figure out new software and systems. We use a huge range of different cloud-based programs to collaborate and streamline our work, including Slack, G Suite, Creative Cloud, Asana and others.
- Good listening skills and can deal with ambiguity and are able to figure things out for yourself.
- The ability to work independently and to think on your feet.
- Experience creating content for a non-profit company and/or social cause is a plus!
- A love for kids! They’re why we do what we do. Our kids’ music and videos will become part of your life (and constantly stuck in your head).
- Persistence! We have a big goal and have to get things done with limited resources.
- Courage, and are willing to speak up for what’s right, when you see wrong, or when you think there might be a better way.

PREFERRED:
- At least 3 years’ experience in visual content, graphic design, advertising and/or creative related field
- Educational Background required Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, fine arts or related discipline
- Should be ready to start in as soon as possible
- Advanced experience with Photoshop and Illustrator
- Experience with motion design and animation (not required but preferred)
- Experience with the social networking space, and digital and mobile formats
- Experience with concept creation, style frame creation and storyboarding
