OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The overall purpose of the role of Geologist 2-Exploration within the GGM Exploration Team is to design the Project or projects-based exploration work plans/programs assigned to him/her monitor their implementation as well as technical interpretation and geological modelling. The role holder will perform regular geological data integration for targets consolidation, ranking and evaluation within and outside GGM Concessions effectively and efficiently as directed by management.
The role holder will also ensure availability of resources to execute the task and to coordinate the duties of the subordinates and any form of casual or temporary labouring assigned to him or her and regularly provide feedback and work reports to Geologist 3-Exploration or Exploration Superintendent to speed up the exploration initiatives on resource additions and resource conversions to reserves. The role holder will be reporting to Geologist 3 – Exploration.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead advanced geological interpretation sessions to refine structural, lithological, and alteration models for target definition.
- Develop predictive exploration models that integrate geochemistry, geophysics, structural patterns, and historical drill data to refine ranking of targets.
- Conduct independent geological risk assessments for each project stage and recommend risk‑mitigation strategies.
- Verify geological models created by junior geologists and ensure they adhere to modelling standards and QA processes
- Identify data gaps within project areas and design specific drilling or mapping programs to address them.
- Oversee multi‑disciplinary targeting exercises (geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing) and integrate outputs into exploration strategy.
- Develop and recommend “next‑phase” exploration pathways, including follow‑up drilling, down‑hole surveys, or additional geochemical programs.
- Ensure that each project has a clear justification for its stage‑gate position (e.g., reconnaissance, evaluation, resource conversion).
- Conduct regular risk assessments for remote or high‑risk exploration areas and update mitigation plans accordingly.
- Ensure mapping, sampling, and drilling activities conform to company, environmental, and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform scheduled field audits to verify compliance with safety procedures and exploration standards.
- Provide guidance on emergency procedures and hazard management to field crews
- Lead the design and positioning of drillholes to maximize geological information return while controlling cost.
- Inspect drill sites regularly to ensure drilling teams are following planned orientations, safety plans, and sampling quality requirements.
- Approve sampling intervals, logging templates, and classification schemes to maintain consistency across projects.
- Make real‑time operational decisions on drilling progress, hole termination, deviations, and reorientation.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor of Science in Geology/ Advanced diploma or Higher.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- 3 to 5 years’ working experience in Mineral Exploration (especially Gold Exploration from various geological environment
- Competence on computer-aided software’s such as ArcGIS, Datamine or Leapfrog
- Good knowledge of geological data interpretation and 3D geological modelling
- Good knowledge of exploration methodologies based on current technologies and good understanding of mineralisation systems within the Geita Greenstone Belt to guide the exploration process
