Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Geological Technician to join and grow our team. to join our geology team. The successful candidate will provide technical and field support to geologists and engineers, assisting with geological sampling, core and rock logging, data collection, laboratory preparation, geological mapping and database management. Responsibilities or duties
- Collect, label, prepare and process geological samples.
- Assist geologists with geological mapping, field surveys and site investigations.
- Record and maintain geological, sampling and drilling data in databases and spreadsheets.
- Assist with core photography, sample preparation and dispatch of samples to laboratories.
- Carry out routine laboratory and field testing in accordance with approved procedures.
- Monitor drilling activities and maintain accurate timesheet of drilling progress.
- Assist with geological and geotechnical investigations and field programmes.
- Check data for accuracy, completeness.
- Assist with the insertion and tracking of certified reference materials, blanks and duplicates.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as pXRF, TerraSpec, GPS and other geological instruments
- Support other geological activities as directed by the Senior/Project Geologist.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Good knowledge of basic geology, mineralogy, rocks and geological structures.
- QA/QC and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Strong observation and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good computer literacy and data-entry skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Experience needed
- 2–3 years of relevant experience as a Geological Technician or in a similar geological/mining role.
- Previous experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience in geological mapping and field data collection.
- Experience maintaining geological databases, records and sampling.
- Familiarity with laboratory sample preparation and submission procedures.
- Experience working on mine sites and exploration projects is desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
