General Practitioner (GP)
Job Summary:
The General Practitioner provides comprehensive and continuous primary medical care to individuals and families across all ages, genders, and diseases. This role focuses on diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and health promotion, referring complex cases to specialists when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnosis: Consult with patients to assess symptoms, conduct physical examinations, and order/interpret diagnostic tests (blood work, X-rays, ECGs).
- Treatment: Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, infections, respiratory diseases). Prescribe medications and therapies.
- Prevention: Administer immunizations, conduct routine health screenings (cancer, cholesterol), and provide lifestyle counseling (smoking cessation, diet, exercise).
- Minor Procedures: Perform minor surgical procedures (e.g., suturing lacerations, incision and drainage of abscesses, joint injections).
- Referral: Identify conditions requiring specialized care and refer patients to consultants (Cardiology, Neurology, etc.) with detailed clinical summaries.
- Continuity of Care: Maintain comprehensive medical records and manage long-term follow-up of patients with chronic disease.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Medical Doctor (MD) or MBBS degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Valid medical license and registration with the relevant medical council.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of post-graduate experience in primary care.
- Certification: BLS/ACLS certified.
- Skills: Strong diagnostic ability, excellent bedside manner, time management, and ability to handle diverse and undifferentiated patient populations.
