Key Performance Areas

  • Manage, Motivate, and instruct all operation team members, set priorities and structure task and goals.
  • Lead supervisors on vessel and yard operations including cargo stowage, delivery, and horizontal transport.
  • Provide effective organization and control to meet planned objectives depending on current deployment at either:
  • Monitor General Cargo operations and ensure proper handling on vessel or yard operations.
  • Monitor silo operations and ensure proper handling and storage of bulk commodities
  • Coordinate RoRo operations ensuring safe and efficient vehicle handling.
  • Liaise with the engineering department to maximize equipment availability and effectiveness.
  • Maximize equipment utilization (cranes, forklifts, silo systems) to achieve productivity targets.
  • Coordinate terminal planning and operations to ensure effective ship working programmes are set and maintained to ensure vessels meet sailing or berthing deadlines.
  • Identify stages in a typical performance management cycle including setting smart goals and the processes for monitoring performance effectively and providing constructive feedback.
  • Manage and improve the individual team and divisional performance to achieve organizational goals and strategies.
  • Provide leadership and training to operational staff.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships and goodwill with departments and customers.
  • Advising, appraising, assisting, conferring, and counselling with these terminal issues and initiatives.
  • Brief the Operations Manager daily or as required and advise on status of current operations, future operations, and analysis of past operations.
  • Coordinate planning section activities with operations supervision by personal and radio contact.
  • Daily personal and/or telephone contact with engineering management to communicate and receive equipment status information.
  • Regularly telephone and personal contact with shipping line/vessel agency representatives to exchange operational information.
  • As required, contact via telephone and/or radio with Customs, Port Authority and Pilots regarding vessel, berthing movements and on any issues affecting ongoing operations.
  • Ensure proper clean up and berth operation readiness before start of next vessel operation.
  • Organize and ensure proper and right equipment are in place prior berthing/start of vessel operation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and SOPs across all operational areas.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and performance optimization.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Shipping & Logistics, Port Management, or related field.
  • Rigging and lifting certification ((added advantage).

  • Able to Maintain contacts with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with cargo handling procedures and safety protocols.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Able to work under pressure and extreme conditions.
  • Experience in coordinating with vessel officers, pilots, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Shipping & Logistics, Port Management, or related field.
  • Rigging and lifting certification ((added advantage).
