Job Summary:

The Enrolled Nurse functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide basic patient care and assist with daily living activities. The EN is responsible for implementing delegated nursing tasks, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and monitoring patient comfort and well-being. This role serves as a crucial link between the patient and the larger medical team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Patient Care: Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, toileting, and mobility.
  • Vital Signs: Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and report any abnormalities to the RN immediately.
  • Clinical Assistance: Assist the RN and physicians with clinical procedures (e.g., catheterization, enemas, specimen collection, pre-operative preparation).
  • Hygiene: Ensure patient hygiene and comfort, including daily bed-making, oral care, and pressure area care to prevent bedsores.
  • Nutrition: Serve meals, assist patients with feeding, and monitor dietary intake and output (I/O) charts.
  • Observation: Observe patients for changes in condition, behavior, or responses to treatment and promptly report these to the supervising RN.
  • Safety: Ensure patient safety by using appropriate restraints/side rails, conducting regular rounds, and adhering to fall prevention protocols.
  • Stock Management: Maintain cleanliness of patient units and assist with the inventory management of consumable medical supplies.
  • Patient Transport: Escort patients to different departments (e.g., radiology, physiotherapy) for diagnostic tests and treatments.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Certificate in Enrolled Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Licensure: Valid and current practicing license from the relevant Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • Experience: Practical experience during internship/attachment is essential; 1 year post-qualification experience is desirable.

  • Compassionate nature with a strong patient focus.
  • Good observational and reporting skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to stand/walk for long periods.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
