Dar es Salaam Independent School is seeking a qualified and passionate English Language / Literature Teacher to join its academic team for the 2026/2027 academic year. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in English Language and Literature within the IGCSE and A-Level curriculum while fostering students’ communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

The role requires a dedicated educator who can inspire a love for language and literature, create an engaging and inclusive learning environment, and support students in achieving academic excellence. The successful candidate will contribute to the school’s educational objectives through effective teaching, assessment, mentorship, and active participation in co-curricular and school activities.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Prepare and deliver high-quality English Language and Literature lessons in accordance with the IGCSE and A-Level curriculum.
  • Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and instructional materials that support effective learning outcomes.
  • Assess, monitor, and evaluate students’ academic progress and performance.
  • Design and administer assignments, coursework, tests, and examinations.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support student growth and achievement.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and academic performance.
  • Prepare academic reports and communicate student progress to parents and school management.
  • Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation.
  • Develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, and analytical skills.
  • Encourage critical appreciation and interpretation of literary texts.
  • Support students in developing effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Ensure effective classroom management and maintain appropriate student discipline.
  • Guide students in preparation for IGCSE and A-Level examinations.
  • Participate actively in co-curricular activities, school events, and extracurricular programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum delivery and academic standards.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and professional development programs.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the academic department.
  • Promote the school’s values, policies, and educational objectives.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by school management.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Literature, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Professional teaching qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Experience teaching English Language and Literature within the IGCSE and A-Level curriculum.
  • Master’s Degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of international curriculum requirements and assessment standards.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to teach literary analysis, composition, and language skills effectively.
  • Experience in lesson planning, student assessment, and academic reporting.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural educational environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve academic success.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and educational excellence.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and digital learning tools is an added advantage.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to student development.
