EMPLOYMENT STATUS

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
Provide technical support to underground production drill and blast operations and be responsible for technical services drill and blast functions.
Support reporting, rosters, drill and blast plans and schedules, while ensuring activities are completed in a timely, professional and safe manner.
Support explosive store inspections, stock reconciliation, and stope notes and 3MS inputs related to drill and blast activities.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Review, design and optimize stopes, drill designs and charge plans to meet site standards and support effective underground drill and blast performance.
- Prepare drilling and blasting schedules in consultation with mine planning and operations, and communicate issues affecting drilling, charging accuracy and blasting results.
- Monitor drill stock availability, support explosive store inspections and stock reconciliation, and contribute to cost-effective and efficient drill and blast operations.
- Lead stope closure activities, compile closure notes, provide stope notes and 3MS inputs, and prepare required production and technical reports.
- Maintain safe working practices, meet statutory safety and environmental reporting requirements, participate in inspections and audits, and ensure compliance with Company and statutory standards.
- Mentor Drill and Blast Engineers and Graduate or Junior Engineers, maintain contractor relationships, and support continuous improvement, budgeting and operational coordination when required.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Degree in B.Sc. in Mining Engineering.
- Valid Driving License.
- Valid Blasting Certificates.
Experience
- 6+ years of experience in underground drill and blast and underground operations.
- Experience working in a mechanized mine.
- Previous experience in Longhole Open Stoping and Transverse Stoping mining methods.
- Experience in supervision and coordination of mining works and personnel.
- Experience in mine planning is an advantage.
Knowledge & Skills
- High level of computer literacy with mining software such as Aegis, Vulcan, Datamine and Deswik, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of underground mining and haulage.
- Knowledge of drill design assumptions, optimization and performance improvement.
- Strong safety orientation with the ability to identify and communicate safety, health and environmental issues.
- Ability to record and manage data and reports, make autonomous decisions and develop contingency plans.
- Good English communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work across disciplines, manage diverse teams and coach junior engineers.
