PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The purpose of this role is to provide technical and metallurgical support to ensure that the Process Plant achieves maximum metallurgical efficiency. The role is responsible for monitoring and optimizing plant performance, supporting production teams with technical expertise, and contributing to process improvements through data analysis, metallurgical test work, and operational initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing Engineering /Metallurgy and Mineral Processing Engineering.
- Must be registered with the Tanzania Engineers’ Registration Board (ERB).
EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of four (4) years hands-on experience in mineral processing, preferably in gold processing operations (CIL/Gravity circuits).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Sound exposure to metallurgical test work, plant optimization techniques.
• Basic knowledge of comminution, classification, leaching, elution, and electrowinning operations.
• Familiarity with metallurgical software for mass balancing, simulation, and process control will be an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and recommend improvements.
• Ability to monitor reagent and consumable usage to support cost efficiency.
• Preparing clear reports, technical notes, and recommendations for plant improvements.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Safety, Compliance & General Responsibilities
• Ensure adherence to company policies, safety standards, and environmental regulations in all metallurgical activities.
• Demonstrate strong technical understanding of comminution systems, CIL circuits, gravity recovery, elution, and electrowinning.
• Apply sound knowledge of process control loops, digitalization, and laboratory management in plant operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support plant objectives.
- Technical Support & Plant Optimization
• Perform metallurgical activities aimed at achieving optimal plant efficiency across comminution, gravity separation, leaching, and elution circuits.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly metallurgical accounting reports to track performance and efficiency.
• Conduct circuit modelling, mass balances, and plant simulations to assess process sensitivity scenarios.
• Apply process control loop techniques to enhance plant stability and performance.
• Collect, analyses, and interpret metallurgical data to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
• Support water quality monitoring in collaboration with the Water Treatment Plant team to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
• Monitor and optimize plant reagent usage and consumables to achieve cost-effective performance.
• Conduct plant performance reviews and metallurgical unit operation assessments to drive improvements.
- Metallurgical Test Work & Research
• Conduct metallurgical sampling, survey exercises, and instrument calibrations.
• Perform metallurgical test work in the Mineral Processing Laboratory, including ore characterization and response testing, to support process improvements.
• Participate in geometallurgical studies to understand ore variability and its impact on processing performance.
• Manage metallurgical inventory measurements to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Support innovation and continuous improvement initiatives, including laboratory management and the adoption of new technologies.
- Reporting & Documentation
• Compile and interpret metallurgical statistical data for operational and management reporting.
• Develop and update plant operating procedures and data log sheets under the guidance of senior metallurgists.
• Contribute to audits, inspections, and compliance activities in line with company and industry standards.
- Cost & Resource Management
• Monitor reagent and consumable consumption to control operating costs.
• Support cost benefit analyses for metallurgical test work and operational improvements.
• Ensure efficient utilization of plant resources to achieve cost effective outcome.
- Training & Knowledge Transfer
- Train and mentor graduate metallurgists, metallurgical technicians, and plant operators to build capability within the team.
• Share technical knowledge and best practices to support continuous learning and professional growth.
