Position Overview:
African Fibres Tanzania Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Technician to join our dynamic team at Pangawe Sisal Estates. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul of electrical systems and equipment critical to the operation of the sisal processing plant and estate infrastructure. This role demands hands-on technical expertise, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to ensure minimal downtime and optimal equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance on all electrical systems and machinery, including motors, control panels, switchgear, transformers, and estate lighting.
- Troubleshoot and repair faults in electrical circuits, motors, and equipment to ensure continuous and efficient operation of the sisal processing plant and supporting facilities.
- Lead and coordinate major electrical overhaul projects including rewiring, motor reconditioning, and panel board upgrades.
- Maintain, inspect, and service high and low voltage electrical systems, ensuring compliance with national safety and regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain electrical maintenance schedules and documentation, including service reports, maintenance logs, and spare parts records.
- Monitor energy usage and implement energy-efficient solutions where applicable.
- Collaborate with mechanical and production teams to diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure proper installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment and systems.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior technicians and electricians on safe and efficient electrical practices.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, and actively participate in HSE programs and audits.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or Trade Certification in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in industrial electrical maintenance, preferably in an agro-industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in electrical system overhauls, motor rewinds, and troubleshooting of both AC and DC systems.
- Strong knowledge of industrial automation and electrical control systems.
- Familiarity with Tanzanian electrical safety codes and energy regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Working Conditions:
- Based at Pangawe Sisal Estate – a field and factory environment involving exposure to industrial machinery, variable weather conditions, and occasional high-voltage systems.
- May require working extended hours or shifts during critical repair or overhaul operations.
