JOB DETAILS:

Role purpose
The Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Education Officer will support the implementation of ECCD activities in Save the Children supported centers in Nyarugusu and Nduta refugee camps. She/he will work closely with the Education Programme Coordinator and refugee incentive workers under the overall umbrella of the Refugee Response Field Manager to ensure that planned education activities are implemented timely and in line with Save the Children best practices to ensure the attainment of set outcomes and objectives.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and experience:

Experience and skills

Essential:

1.            University or College qualification and minimum of three years professional experience with early education/ Education in Emergency work.

2.            Good knowledge and understanding of in emergency/refugee context.

3.            Knowledge of INEE Minimum Standards in emergency preparedness, response and application of the standards in response.

4.            Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of children in the school and community.

5.            Strong understanding of the contextual situation related to education.

6.            Strong organizational skills.

7.            Proven technical knowledge and skills in the field of participatory development, child participation, education.

8.            Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities and work long hours.

9.            Strong verbal and written English skills and other local languages (Kirundi)

10.          Strong interpersonal skills the ability to work collaboratively with others

11.          Strong reporting skills

12.          Good computer skills (MS Office, including Outlook for email)

13.          Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children's aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches

Desirable:

  1. Background in Emergency/ Refugee programming is an asset.
  2. Understanding of French and Kirundi languages will be an asset
