Job Purpose:
To safely and efficiently carry out all drilling and blasting operations according to designed patterns to fragment rock for excavation, in compliance with strict safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate drill rigs (percussion, down-the-hole) to drill blast holes to specified depths, angles, and patterns.
- Measure and record hole depths and conditions.
- Safely handle, prepare, and load explosives (ANFO, Emulsions, Detonators) into blast holes.
- Connect and wire up firing circuits (electrical or non-electrical).
- Implement comprehensive blast area security, barricading, and signaling procedures.
- Work under the direct supervision of a Blasting Engineer and in accordance with the blast design.
- Complete all required blast documentation and logs.
- Inspect and report misfires and manage their safe disposal.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Certificate or Diploma in Mining, Blasting, or a related field.
- Mandatory: Valid Tanzania Explosives Inspectorate Division (TEID) Blasting License.
- First Aid and Firefighting certification.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in mining or heavy civil construction.
- Proven track record of working in remote site locations.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Relevant trade certification, vocational training, or operator licenses.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in challenging outdoor environments.
- Fluency in Kiswahili; working knowledge of English is an advantage.
