Background

Fema Mining and Drilling Limited is a mining and drilling services company operating in Tanzania’s extractive sector, providing technical support in mining production activities such as drilling and dewatering. In its Geita operations, the company is expanding its dewatering team and is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Dewatering Supervisor (3 Positions).

The Dewatering Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all dewatering operations within open pit mining activities. The role focuses on ensuring efficient water management, supervision of dewatering teams, equipment performance, and strict compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervising daily pit dewatering operations and ensuring smooth execution of activities.
  • Coordinating installation, relocation, and maintenance of pumps, pipelines, hoses, and generators.
  • Monitoring pit water levels and ensuring effective drainage control systems are in place.
  • Minimizing equipment downtime through proactive planning and supervision.
  • Planning manpower allocation and managing equipment utilization effectively.
  • Conducting inspections of pumps, electrical systems, and related dewatering infrastructure.
  • Coordinating preventive maintenance schedules to ensure continuous operational efficiency.
  • Responding promptly to breakdowns, flooding incidents, and emergency situations.
  • Supervising Dewatering Service Men and operators to ensure productivity and discipline.
  • Providing technical guidance, on-the-job training, and performance support to team members.
  • Conducting toolbox meetings, safety briefings, and shift handovers.
  • Monitoring staff discipline, attendance, and productivity levels.
  • Preparing shift schedules and coordinating workforce deployment.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures.
  • Enforcing proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
  • Ensuring environmental compliance related to water discharge and drainage systems.
  • Reporting incidents, hazards, and unsafe conditions promptly to management.
  • Maintaining accurate operational and maintenance reports.
  • Preparing regular performance and operational reports for management review.
  • Monitoring equipment utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinating with mining and maintenance departments to support production targets.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of Form Four (O-Level) education.
  • A Certificate, Diploma, or Advanced Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Pump Operations, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience in dewatering operations, mining operations, or pump management.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience will be considered an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of dewatering systems, pumps, generators, pipelines, and water management processes.
  • Good leadership, coordination, and supervisory skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of mining safety standards and compliance requirements.
  • Basic computer literacy will be an added advantage.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and basic English communication skills.
