About the Role

The Credit Manager – PayGo Phones Tanzania is a field-based position within the Global Risk and Credit team. The role focuses on overseeing credit and related risk areas within the PAYGo business in Tanzania. It involves shaping, implementing, and maintaining effective credit risk controls and operational practices to strengthen portfolio quality and regulatory adherence.

What you will be expected to do:

Portfolio Performance Oversight

  • Review portfolio performance to identify customers showing early signs of repayment difficulties through data review and direct field engagement.
  • Track portfolio risk indicators and ensure timely escalation and visibility.
  • Produce consistent and accurate portfolio performance and risk indicator reports.
  • Monitor regional, area, and product-level trends and recommend corrective actions to address emerging risk exposures.

Audit & Compliance

  • Carry out internal reviews to identify gaps across credit-related processes, including underwriting, collections, onboarding, repossession, and customer detail updates.
  • Confirm alignment with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Document findings clearly and outline practical risk mitigation actions.

Collections & Field Interventions

  • Apply preventative collection approaches, including KYC and onboarding practices that enhance customer quality.
  • Design and roll out field-informed collection approaches in partnership with field teams to improve recovery outcomes.
  • Evaluate existing policies and their portfolio impact, proposing updates informed by market conditions and field insights.
  • Improve portfolio segmentation by aligning customer buckets with appropriate ownership models and recommending adjustments where required.

Pilot & Initiative Management

  • Oversee field pilots to ensure they are tracked, documented, and measured against defined success criteria through engagement with relevant teams.

Fraud Case Oversight

  • Ensure reported fraud cases are reviewed promptly and resolved within established timelines.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Compile structured field reports covering data summaries, operational observations, and process documentation.
  • Maintain consistency and accuracy in risk and portfolio performance reporting.
  • Conduct market and sector research and translate findings into recommendations that strengthen Sun King’s market position across sales and collections.

You might be a strong candidate if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, or a related business discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience within credit, risk, audit, or data-focused functions, including at least 5 years in a people or operational oversight capacity.
  • Professional certification in Credit Management, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Practical exposure to data gathering and field-based assessments.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and attention to detail.
  • High adaptability, flexibility, and comfort operating in dynamic environments.
  • Structured problem-solving approach with the ability to translate complex issues into practical actions.
  • Ability to guide teams and influence operational improvements through clarity and direction.
  • Clear and assured written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work constructively across teams.
  • Willingness to spend approximately 70% of time in the field.
