The Communications Officer is responsible for coordinating and implementing strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, media relations, and public affairs activities that strengthen the company’s reputation and enhance awareness of its projects among internal and external audiences. The role supports the delivery of clear, consistent, and impactful communications while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, communities, media, and project partners.

Reporting to the Communications Lead, the successful candidate will work closely with various departments to develop communication strategies, manage corporate events, oversee digital communication platforms, coordinate media engagement, and produce high-quality communication materials that align with the company’s objectives and brand standards.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Corporate Affairs events calendar and maintain meeting minutes, records, and archived documentation
  • Coordinate day-to-day communication activities between the department and internal teams, agencies, production houses, and service providers
  • Support the development and implementation of integrated internal and external communication strategies, plans, campaigns, and communication calendars
  • Deliver consistent and impactful communication campaigns across multiple communication channels
  • Ensure communication messages are timely, accurate, audience-focused, and aligned with the company’s objectives and brand guidelines
  • Create engaging communication content, including news articles, blogs, social media posts, newsletters, announcements, videos, photography, and other multimedia materials
  • Coordinate documentation of project activities through multimedia content and oversee content production processes
  • Manage communication agencies, designers, and contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of communication products
  • Review and edit communication materials produced by internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality and consistency
  • Support the preparation and distribution of press releases and media statements
  • Respond to media inquiries following management approval
  • Organize press conferences, media briefings, interviews, and project site visits
  • Support community engagement initiatives, meetings, commemorations, and stakeholder outreach activities
  • Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder and project site visits
  • Collect stakeholder feedback and prepare reports to improve engagement and relationship management
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to enhance communication effectiveness and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Receive, register, acknowledge, and route incoming correspondence, requests, and inquiries
  • Respond to stakeholder and partner communications through email and other communication platforms
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage corporate events, communication campaigns, and stakeholder engagement initiatives
  • Ensure successful execution of events that enhance project visibility, public awareness, and stakeholder goodwill
  • Develop, maintain, and update innovative digital communication tools and platforms
  • Manage and grow the company’s digital communication channels and social media platforms
  • Support intranet management and effective utilization of digital communication tools
  • Develop and implement digital communication campaigns and monitor their effectiveness
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of digital communication policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Perform other communications and marketing duties assigned by the Communications Lead

Qualifications Required

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in corporate communications, public relations, stakeholder engagement, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in communication planning, campaign management, and media relations
  • Proven experience in content development, publication management, and multimedia production
  • Experience managing corporate events, stakeholder engagement programmes, and communication agencies
  • Experience in client relations, protocol management, or travel coordination is an added advantage
  • Experience within the oil and gas, infrastructure, energy, or related sectors is desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong media writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
  • Strong understanding of communication strategies, tools, and industry best practices
  • Knowledge of digital communications, social media management, and multimedia platforms
  • Strong organizational, planning, scheduling, and project management skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, networking, and relationship management skills
  • Strong customer service, active listening, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital communication tools
  • Ability to work effectively in office, remote, and field-based environments
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory
  • Proficiency in Luganda, Runyoro, Runyankole, or other Ugandan local languages is an added advantage
