The Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Foundation is seeking a Climate Change & Environment Program Fellow for a one-year fellowship opportunity based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

This fellowship targets early-career professionals aged 23–35 who are interested in climate change, environmental sustainability, and development programming. The Fellow will support initiatives that integrate environmental considerations into development work, including policy engagement, partnerships, fundraising, research, and program implementation.

The fellowship will run for 12 months under a renewable 3-month contract arrangement. It also includes quarterly one-week re-energizer breaks.

Responsibilities

The Climate Change & Environment Program Fellow will be responsible for supporting the coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of climate change and environmental programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the coordination and implementation of climate change and environmental programs.
  • Supporting research and analysis on environmental policies, climate resilience, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Contributing to proposal writing, concept notes, and fundraising efforts.
  • Tracking donor opportunities and maintaining a fundraising database.
  • Supporting the monitoring of project implementation, budgets, and reporting.
  • Assisting in developing partnerships and monitoring collaboration agreements.
  • Preparing communication materials, including articles, briefs, and digital content.
  • Maintaining proper documentation and filing systems for program activities.
  • Supporting internal and external reporting processes.
  • Assisting with administrative and operational program needs.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Applicants should meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • At least 2–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Basic knowledge of climate change frameworks, environmental policies, or sustainability practices will be an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Swahili.
  • Residency in Dar es Salaam.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Two filled recommendation letters prior to confirming the fellowship.
