Background

People Project is recruiting on behalf of its client, a reputable renewable energy company based in Zanzibar, for a Civil Officer.

The successful candidate will support the Civil Engineer in overseeing and monitoring civil construction activities for a 20MW solar installation project, ensuring that all civil works are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with approved engineering standards, project specifications, and applicable health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Civil Engineer in supervising daily civil construction activities on site.
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and project schedules.
  • Inspect earthworks, excavation, foundations, concrete works, equipment bases, roads, drainage systems, fencing, and cable trenches.
  • Ensure construction works comply with applicable engineering standards, quality requirements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine site inspections and identify defects, non-conformances, and construction issues for corrective action.
  • Verify that construction materials meet approved specifications before use.
  • Maintain daily site records, inspection reports, work progress reports, and photographic records.
  • Monitor construction progress and promptly report delays, risks, and technical challenges to the Civil Engineer.
  • Assist in reviewing contractor work plans, method statements, and inspection requests.
  • Support measurement and verification of completed civil works for progress reporting and payment certification.
  • Coordinate civil activities with electrical, mechanical, and environmental teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Ensure contractors comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements at all times.
  • Participate in quality inspections, testing, commissioning, and project handover activities.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues arising during construction.
  • Support the Civil Engineer in preparing progress reports and project documentation.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Civil Engineer or Project Manager.

Qualification & Requirements:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in civil construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of civil construction practices, including earthworks, concrete works, foundations, drainage, and road construction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Registration with the relevant professional engineering body and experience in renewable energy projects will be an added advantage.
