Job Purpose:
To oversee all technical disciplines within the mining operation, including mine planning, geology, geotechnical engineering, survey, and ventilation, ensuring safe, efficient, and optimized extraction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate technical teams (planning, geologists, rock mechanics, surveyors) to deliver short- and long-term mine plans.
- Ensure reserve and resource models are current and compliant with reporting codes (JORC, NI 43-101, SAMREC).
- Optimize mine design, stope sequencing, and equipment utilization to maximize NPV.
- Manage technical budgets, capital projects, and technology implementation (e.g., fleet management systems, mine optimization software).
- Ensure compliance with ground control, ventilation, and geotechnical standards.
- Represent technical functions at monthly production and strategic meetings.
- Develop technical talent and succession plans.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (postgraduate preferred).
- Professional engineer status (P.Eng., CEng, or equivalent).
Experience:
- 15+ years in underground or open-pit mining, with at least 7 years in technical management.
- Proven experience in both planning and operational roles.
Competencies:
- Mastery of mine planning software (Deswik, Surpac, Datamine, Vulcan, or MineSight).
- Strategic thinking and financial acumen (NPV, IRR, sensitivity analysis).
- Strong incident investigation and risk assessment skills.
