Dar es Salaam Independent School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Chemistry & Biology Teacher to join its academic team for the 2026/2027 academic year. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Chemistry and Biology within the IGCSE and A-Level curriculum while supporting students' academic growth and overall development.
The role requires a passionate educator who can create an engaging and inclusive learning environment, foster academic excellence, and contribute positively to the school community. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents to ensure effective teaching and learning outcomes in a multicultural educational setting.
Responsibilities or duties
- Prepare and deliver high-quality Chemistry and Biology lessons in accordance with the IGCSE and A-Level curriculum.
- Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and instructional materials that support effective learning.
- Assess, monitor, and evaluate students’ academic progress and performance.
- Design and administer assignments, tests, practical assessments, and examinations.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and academic performance.
- Prepare academic reports and communicate student progress to parents and school management.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student participation.
- Support students in developing critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving skills.
- Ensure effective classroom management and maintain appropriate student discipline.
- Organize and supervise laboratory practical sessions in accordance with safety procedures.
- Participate actively in co-curricular activities, school events, and extracurricular programs.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and academic staff to enhance curriculum delivery and student achievement.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching practices and academic standards.
- Promote the school’s values, policies, and educational objectives.
- Perform any other duties assigned by school management.
Qualifications or requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Education, or a related field.
- Professional teaching qualification from a recognized institution.
- Experience teaching Chemistry and Biology within the IGCSE and A-Level curriculum.
- Master’s Degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of international curriculum standards and assessment practices.
- Excellent classroom management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prepare engaging and effective lesson plans.
- Experience in student assessment, monitoring, and academic reporting.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural educational environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve academic excellence.
