Introduction
Isamilo International School, located in Mwanza, Tanzania, is owned by the Anglican Church of Tanzania under the auspices of the Diocese of Victoria Nyanza. Job summary
The school is seeking a dedicated and experienced Canteen Manager to oversee and manage the daily operations of the school canteen. The successful candidate will ensure the provision of safe, nutritious, and affordable meals, while maintaining high standards of hygiene, staff supervision, inventory control, and financial management.
The Canteen Manager will play an important role in supporting a healthy and inclusive learning environment for students and staff.
Key responsibilities
Canteen operations
Oversee daily canteen operations, ensuring timely preparation and service of meals.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with Tanzanian food safety regulations.
Implement proper food storage, waste management, and inventory control systems.
Ensure efficient service during peak periods and manage customer feedback.
Staff supervision
Recruit, train, and supervise canteen staff.
Prepare duty rosters and monitor staff attendance.
Promote teamwork, high standards of service, and a positive working environment.
Conduct staff performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
Financial management
Prepare and manage the canteen budget.
Monitor daily revenue and expenditure.
Maintain accurate financial records and provide periodic reports.
Procurement and inventory
Control costs and minimize food waste.
Source quality supplies from reliable vendors.
Negotiate favorable pricing while maintaining quality standards.
Conduct regular inventory checks and ensure timely procurement.
Health, safety, and compliance
Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
Confirm that all staff hold valid health certificates.
Implement food safety training and standard operating procedures.
Customer service and community engagement
Address feedback from students, parents, and staff.
Support initiatives that promote healthy eating habits within the school community.
Qualifications
Minimum: Diploma in Hospitality Management, Food and Beverage Management, Catering, or a related field.
A Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or Business Management will be an added advantage.
Proven experience in canteen, catering, or food service management.
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
Strong leadership, financial management, and customer service skills.
Experience working in an international or multicultural environment will be an added advantage.
