Basic Purpose

The Branch Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to ensure the achievement of branch performance objectives. This includes business growth, employee development, engagement, and performance management to deliver organizational goals.

The role also focuses on growing the bank’s market share by identifying new business opportunities, enhancing customer experiences, and formulating innovative marketing and business development strategies based on continuous market and competitor intelligence.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Business Development & Marketing

  • Drive overall branch business growth across deposits, alternative banking channels, and loan portfolio quality.
  • Identify, assess, and pursue key markets and business opportunities for the bank’s products and services.
  • Develop and implement marketing plans and business development strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Conduct market research and intelligence gathering on customers, competitors, and emerging trends.
  • Handle business inquiries, generate sales leads, follow up, and prepare proposals.
  • Develop new revenue streams and optimize existing ones by identifying and exploiting changing customer needs and preferences.
  • Increase market share by creating unique customer experiences and introducing tailored banking products and services.
  • Grow the number of accounts, carded customers, agents, and merchants.

2. Branch Management & Performance

  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the branch budget to ensure efficiency and profitability.
  • Monitor the performance of existing business portfolios and new accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with bank policies, AML, and KYC guidelines.
  • Maintain operational excellence, service quality, and adherence to regulatory standards.

3. Leadership & People Management

  • Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and coaching to branch staff to achieve high performance.
  • Drive employee engagement and professional development initiatives.
  • Manage staff performance and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Foster teamwork, discipline, and a customer-centric culture within the branch.

4. Relationship Management & Collaboration

  • Build and maintain partnerships and business relationships with key industry stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to enhance and develop products and services that exceed customer expectations.
  • Represent the branch in community and business development initiatives to strengthen the bank’s brand visibility.

5. Other Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and coaching skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
  • In-depth understanding of bank risks and their mitigation strategies.
  • Sound knowledge of AML, KYC, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Strong business acumen and goal-oriented mindset.
  • Good understanding of bank policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field from a reputable institution.
    (An MBA or other relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.)
  • Experience:
    Minimum of 5 years of experience in the banking industry, with a focus on business development and relationship management,
    and at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
