Job Summary:

The Aviation Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, employees, aircraft, and airport facilities. This role involves conducting security screenings, monitoring restricted areas, and enforcing aviation security regulations in compliance with industry standards and regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Passenger & Baggage Screening

  • Conduct security screening of passengers, baggage, and cargo using x-ray machines, metal detectors, and other security equipment.
  • Verify travel documents and ensure compliance with aviation security regulations.
  • Identify prohibited items and handle security breaches according to protocol.

2. Aircraft & Airport Facility Security

  • Monitor and patrol airport premises, including terminals, restricted zones, and boarding gates.
  • Ensure only authorized personnel access restricted airport areas.
  • Conduct pre-flight and post-flight aircraft security checks to prevent unauthorized access and threats.

3. Security Incident Management

  • Respond swiftly to security breaches, suspicious activities, and emergency situations.
  • Report security incidents to the appropriate authorities and assist in investigations.
  • Detain individuals suspected of unlawful activities and coordinate with law enforcement when necessary.

4. Compliance & Regulatory Enforcement

  • Ensure strict adherence to national and international aviation security regulations (e.g., ICAO, TSA, local civil aviation authority).
  • Conduct inspections and audits to identify security vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions.
  •  Implement all airport security policies and procedures.

5. Surveillance & Access Control

  • Monitor CCTV cameras and other surveillance systems to detect security threats.
  • Check employee and visitor identification badges for controlled area access.
  • Prevent unauthorized items from entering secure zones.

6. Customer & Staff Support

  • Provide guidance to passengers on security procedures and regulations.
  • Assist in handling unruly passengers and ensuring a safe airport environment.
  • Work closely with airline staff, ground handling agents, and emergency response teams.

Key Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Diploma or certification in security management, law enforcement, or aviation security.
  • Prior experience in airport security, law enforcement, or military service is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of ICAO, IATA, and national aviation security regulations.

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with security screening equipment and emergency response protocols. •
  • Knowledge of access control systems and surveillance operations.
  • Report writing and incident documentation skills.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication skills – Ability to interact professionally with passengers and staff.
  • Problem-solving ability – Handle security threats effectively and calmly.
  • Attention to detail – Identify security risks and compliance issues.
  • Physical fitness – Capability to handle high-stress situations and perform security duties.
