Background

The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) is the national regulatory authority responsible for overseeing the safe use of atomic energy and radiation technologies in Tanzania. Its core mandate is to protect workers, patients, the public, and the environment through enforcement of radiation protection standards and supervision of all activities involving ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

TAEC is currently recruiting 25 Assistant Radiation Safety Inspectors on an internship basis to support inspection and regulatory activities across multiple regions in Tanzania. The role is designed to strengthen field monitoring, compliance enforcement, and public awareness on radiation safety.

Responsibilities

The position involves assisting senior inspectors in conducting facility inspections, collecting and analyzing radiation measurement data, and supporting compliance assessments. Officers will also contribute to report preparation, documentation of inspection findings, and participation in public awareness campaigns on radiation safety.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Diploma in Radiography, Nuclear Physics, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Science and Technology, or a related field
  • Registration with the relevant professional board in the respective discipline
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Assisting in radiation safety inspections at facilities using radiation sources
  • Supporting enforcement of radiation protection regulations and standards
  • Collecting and analyzing radiation measurement data from field inspections
  • Assisting in preparing inspection reports and compliance documentation
  • Participating in public awareness and education activities on radiation safety
  • Good communication skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Basic computer literacy
