Job Description

On behalf of our client, we are looking for an energetic, adaptable, and highly professional Assistant Manager to join their safari lodge team in the Serengeti. Living and working in a remote wilderness environment requires strong leadership, quick problem-solving skills, and a true passion for high-end guest service. The successful candidate will work directly alongside the Lodge Manager to ensure seamless lodge operations, deliver exceptional guest experiences, and lead local staff effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Greets arriving guests with warmth, conducts lodge orientations, and serves as their primary contact to ensure their stay exceeds expectations.
  • Oversees front-of-house, housekeeping, and service departments during daily operational shifts to guarantee that service standards remain consistently high.
  • Handles all guest inquiries, special dietary needs, and complaints directly and swiftly to ensure complete guest satisfaction.
  • Manages daily staff schedules, conducts team briefings, and provides hands-on coaching to keep the lodge team motivated and productive.
  • Tracks and controls front-of-house, bar, and guest amenities stock to ensure orders are placed well in advance for remote safari logistics.
  • Enforces all bush safety regulations, health protocols, and environmental conservation policies across all lodge activities.
  • Compiles daily operational logs, checks guest billing accuracy, and prepares administrative reports for the Lodge Manager.
  • Coordinates bush dining setups, sundowners, and special events in close collaboration with the head chef and service staff.
  • Assumes full operational leadership of the lodge during any periods when the Lodge Manager is away or on scheduled leave.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of proven operational experience in a similar supervisory or assistant management role within a reputable safari lodge, tented camp, or luxury hotel environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and guest-hosting skills.
  • Strong team leadership and intercultural staff management abilities.
