Job Summary
Thomson Safaris Ltd is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accounts Assistant to join its Finance team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and analysing safari-related costs, reconciling cost variances, preparing financial reports, and ensuring the timely processing of permit payments to relevant authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse safari expenses against Basecamp costs and identify, investigate, and reconcile variances.
- Prepare variance reports, highlight discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions to strengthen cost control.
- Prepare and reconcile Profit and Loss (P&L) reports by job or trip, ensuring Basecamp balances are properly reconciled and cleared.
- Prepare monthly financial trip reports and job reconciliations related to safari operations.
- Ensure timely processing and payment of permits to relevant authorities, including TANAPA, NCAA, and WMA.
- Monitor changes in permit fees, requirements, and payment procedures.
- Maintain accurate and well-organised records of financial and transportation-related transactions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Work closely with Operations, Procurement, and other relevant departments to obtain accurate information and ensure proper cost allocation.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess the following qualifications and competencies:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in cost accounting, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
- Good understanding of Tanzanian permit payment procedures and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial or accounting software.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team.
- Knowledge of relevant accounting standards and regulations.
- Experience in the tourism, transportation, or wildlife conservation industry will be an added advantage.
