About MCODE

Movement for Community Development (MCODE) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Tanzania. The Organization envisions healthy, prosperous, and well-organized farming communities with enhanced productivity, sustainable agricultural practices, and competitive value chains.

MCODE pursues this vision by implementing programmes that strengthen agricultural value chains, promote agribusiness development, build farmers' capacities, and support environmental conservation and sustainable natural resource management. Over the years, MCODE has provided technical assistance and capacity development services to smallholder farmers and their organizations, including Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Associations, Cooperatives, and other producer groups.

MCODE operates across Mainland Tanzania and currently implements programmes throughout the six regions of the Southern Highlands. The Organization works in close collaboration with Government Ministries, Local Government Authorities, development partners, financial institutions, civil society organizations, faith-based organizations, research institutions, private sector actors, agricultural input suppliers, commodity traders, and regulatory authorities.

Terms of Engagement

  • These are volunteer positions engaged on a volunteer basis for a period of four (4) months, commencing on 12th August 2024.
  • The positions do not attract a salary or volunteer allowance. However, MCODE will provide the necessary work-related facilitation to enable volunteers to effectively perform their assigned field and programme responsibilities in accordance with the Organization's policies and project requirements.
  • All successful candidates will be required to report for induction and commencement of assignment on 12 August 2024 at a venue and time that will be communicated to shortlisted applicants.
  • Volunteers will report directly to their respective Project Supervisors or other designated MCODE supervisors, depending on their assigned project and duty station.
  • All volunteering positions involve extensive fieldwork and require successful candidates to travel for up to 80% of their working time.

Accountant

Job Summary

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, supporting budget management, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and applicable financial regulations. The position requires a highly organized individual with strong analytical skills and a high level of integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and financial documentation.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Process financial transactions and ensure timely reconciliation of accounts.
  • Support budget preparation, implementation, and budget monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, donor regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare payment vouchers, journal entries, and other accounting records.
  • Assist in internal and external audit processes by providing the required documentation.
  • Monitor financial systems and recommend improvements where necessary.
  • Support tax compliance and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Provide financial information and technical support to programme staff and management.
  • Perform any other finance and accounting duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA (T), ACCA, or an equivalent professional qualification is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience in accounting within an NGO or development organization is desirable.
  • Practical experience using computerized accounting software.

Required Competencies

  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional integrity.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
