Position summary

Lumac Tanzania Enterprises Limited is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Accountant to join its Finance Department.

The Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company’s financial records. The role involves managing day-to-day accounting functions, including recording transactions, reconciling accounts, processing payments, supporting payroll activities, ensuring statutory compliance, and preparing financial reports to support management decision-making.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Bookkeeping and financial recording

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate and complete financial records for the company.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Recording all financial transactions accurately and promptly in the company’s accounting system.
  • Capturing sales, purchases, expenses, and bank transactions.
  • Maintaining the general ledger and ensuring all entries are correctly classified, coded, and supported by proper documentation.
  • Reconciling bank statements, petty cash, and supplier accounts regularly.
  • Identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records of fixed assets.
  • Recording fixed asset acquisitions, depreciation schedules, and disposals.

2. Accounts payable and receivable

The Accountant will manage supplier payments and customer receivables to support proper cash flow management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing supplier invoices and verifying their accuracy against purchase orders and delivery records.
  • Preparing supplier payments for approval.
  • Monitoring accounts receivable and following up on outstanding client balances.
  • Reporting ageing receivables to the Finance Director.
  • Processing advance and completion payment structures for agent, contractor, and supplier agreements in line with company policy.
  • Maintaining accurate records of customer invoices, receipts, and outstanding balances.
  • Following up on outstanding customer accounts to ensure timely collection of payments.
  • Supporting healthy cash flow and minimizing overdue debts and bad debt exposure.

3. Payroll support and statutory compliance

The Accountant will support payroll preparation and ensure timely compliance with statutory obligations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing monthly payroll inputs in coordination with the HR Manager.
  • Ensuring accuracy of salaries, deductions, and statutory contributions.
  • Calculating and processing statutory deductions, including PAYE, NSSF, and WCF contributions.
  • Ensuring timely remittance of statutory deductions to the relevant authorities.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns and other tax filings to the Tanzania Revenue Authority within statutory deadlines.
  • Maintaining documentation required for statutory audits and regulatory inspections.

4. Financial reporting and analysis

The Accountant will prepare financial reports and provide useful financial data to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts for review by the Finance Director.
  • Preparing profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Supporting the preparation of the company’s annual financial statements in coordination with external auditors.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the company’s cash position.
  • Promptly flagging liquidity concerns to the Finance Director.
  • Providing financial data and analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Supporting cost analysis for factory production and project margins.

5. Internal controls and reporting

The Accountant will help maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with company procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strictly following the company’s internal financial controls and approval procedures for all payments and transactions.
  • Conducting regular petty cash counts and reconciliations.
  • Reporting any petty cash discrepancies immediately.
  • Submitting a Weekly Finance Activity Report to the Finance Director every Friday by 16:00 hours.
  • Maintaining financial records in a fully auditable manner.
  • Ensuring compliance with Tanzanian accounting standards and company policy at all times.

Qualifications and requirements

Applicants should meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA(T) ongoing students are strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in a commercial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Tanzanian tax law.
  • Knowledge of NSSF and WCF statutory requirements.
  • Understanding of standard accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and TRA systems, such as:
    • QuickBooks
    • Tally
    • Sage
    • IDRAS
    • Similar accounting or TRA-related systems
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong personal integrity when handling financial information.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, especially statutory filing dates and month-end closing.
  • Fresh graduates with high pass marks are also encouraged to apply.
