Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide professional advice to farmers and other stakeholders in the avocado value chain by performing the following:
      • Educate farmers on best agricultural practices for avocados, from land preparation, farm maintenance, harvesting, value addition, storage, to market sales.
      • Educate and monitor the quality of raw avocados from the farm to the warehouse.
      • Monitor and ensure farmers adhere to best avocado farming practices.
      • Prepare and submit weekly reports on the progress of avocado farming in the assigned work area.
      • Prepare realistic input requirements, including seeds/seedlings for farmers.
      • Oversee and ensure that distributed inputs in the assigned area reach farmers and are used in their avocado farms.
  • Update the digital database of avocado farmers and other stakeholders, including input service providers, in the assigned area.
  • Oversee the distribution of subsidized avocado farming inputs provided by the government to farmers in the assigned work area.
  • Provide training on best avocado farming practices, including the correct and safe use of pesticides, to farmers.
  • Oversee quality verification of avocados at the level of the Primary Cooperative Society (AMCOS).
  • Prepare estimates of raw avocado production based on the number of avocado trees capable of producing in the season (Crop forecast).
  • Identify agricultural sector stakeholders in the assigned work area and connect them with farmers to access their services.
  • Ensure every farmer has a notebook to record services provided by various stakeholders, including agricultural extension officers.
  • Collaborate with village leadership to select a lead farmer.
  • Provide advice on other crops grown by farmers in the village/area under supervision.
  • Conduct an assessment of avocado production in the assigned area at the end of each season.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Tanzanian graduate in agriculture at the diploma level with the following qualifications:
    • Be honest, ethical, dedicated, and have good interpersonal skills.
    • Be aged between 18 and 35 years.
    • Hold a diploma in Agricultural Science (Agriculture General), Agronomy, Horticulture, or Crop Production and Management from a government-recognized institution.
    • Not be employed or previously dismissed from public service.
    • Not have been imprisoned for any criminal offenses.
    • Be willing to work in various rural areas.
    • Be able to work effectively without supervision.
    • Be ready to work under a temporary contract and receive monthly allowances as specified in the contract.
    • Be prepared to sign a performance-based contract for the specific season.
    • Experience in avocado farming is an added advantage.
