Job Purpose
The System Administrator is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and supporting servers, infrastructure software, and mission-critical systems used in operational technology projects. The role ensures availability, security, and performance of all core IT systems to support project teams and end-users.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows-based servers.
- Administer internal systems including databases, application servers, backups, and email services.
- Monitor system performance and uptime, ensuring proactive resolution of hardware and software issues.
- Manage user accounts, roles, permissions, and access control policies.
- Apply patches, updates, and perform regular system security hardening.
- Maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, and configuration baselines.
- Monitor logs and use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and resolve system failures.
- Support VPN tunnels, IPsec configurations, and secure remote access for partners.
- Collaborate with software engineers and network administrators to ensure smooth deployments.
- Implement and test disaster recovery and backup plans regularly.
Education
- Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- Industry certifications such as Linux+, RHCE, or Microsoft MCSA are preferred.
- Experience At least 3 years of hands-on experience as a system administrator in enterprise or infrastructure environments.
- Experience managing Ubuntu/Linux servers, database environments (MySQL), and VPN/IPSec configurations. Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably AWS or Digital Ocean.
Must Have
Key Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments.
- Strong knowledge of MySQL, Apache/Nginx, FTP, DNS, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with VPN technologies such as strong Swan and network routing principles.
- Ability to write basic shell or bash scripts to automate tasks. Understanding of cybersecurity principles and system hardening practices. High attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple systems concurrently.
- Performance Metrics System uptime ≥ 99.9% Timely patch management and security updates Resolution of tickets within SLA timeframes Zero data loss incidents (verified via backup tests) Accurate and up-to-date system documentation
