PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The purpose of this role is to provide technical support in the handling and processing of drilling samples at the Geology Coreshed, ensuring that all exploration activities are executed efficiently and in compliance with established standards and procedures. This role also involves supervising and coordinating the daily work of subordinates to maintain high-quality outputs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certificate of Secondary Education or a Diploma in Mineral Exploration from a recognized institution.
- Possession of a Tanzanian Driving License is an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma Holders: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in core marking, geotechnical logging, field mapping, or exploration drilling (Diamond & RC).
- Secondary Education Holders: Minimum of 5 years of on-the-job experience in the same areas.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word.
- Good understanding of departmental and site-wide HSE standards and their implementation.
- Ability to coordinate and lead small teams in the workplace.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Perform core marking and geotechnical and basic geological logging of drill cores prior to sampling for laboratory submission.
- Validate and ensure all collected drillhole information is accurately documented and securely stored into the Geological database/systems.
- Verify and ensure all drilling samples received are of good quality, accurately documented and securely stored at the Coreshed.
- Plan and oversee daily work schedules for subordinates, ensuring adherence to procedures, standards, and quality requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, including conducting toolbox meetings and enforcing safe work procedures.
- Lead teams in hazard identification and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented.
- Promptly report all incidents, injuries, illnesses, or fitness-for-work concerns.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the Coreshed, including proper storage and handling of samples.
- Reconcile sample quality by monitoring core marking accuracy and recoveries.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training to subordinates to build technical capability and enhance team performance
