Job Purpose:

To ensure the stability of underground excavations and open pit slopes through geotechnical data collection, analysis, monitoring, and design of ground support systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct geotechnical mapping, core logging (RMR, Q-system, GSI), and structural analysis of discontinuities.
• Design and monitor ground support (rock bolts, shotcrete, mesh, cable bolts) for stopes, drifts, and pillars.
• Install and interpret geotechnical instrumentation (extensometers, stress cells, piezometers, prism monitoring).
• Perform slope stability analysis for pit walls using software (RocScience, SLIDE, FLAC, or UDEC).
• Investigate and report on ground falls, dilution, and seismic events.
• Update ground control management plans and support standards.
• Train miners and supervisors in geotechnical hazard recognition.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology.
• Master’s degree in Rock Mechanics strongly preferred.
• Professional registration (P.Eng., P.Geo., or CEng).

Experience:

• 8+ years in operational rock mechanics (underground hard rock or open pit).
• Experience with numerical modeling and seismicity monitoring in deep mines.

Competencies:

• Proficiency in mapping and stereonet analysis (Dips, Unwedge).
• Practical knowledge of shotcrete and bolt testing (pull tests).
• Ability to work under time pressure in active mining areas.
