Position Description
North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit Rigging Supervisor to join and grow their team. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.

About North Mara
The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border. North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit).

Responsibilities
1. Ensure rigging studies are conducted for all lifting activities on the mine
2. Ensure adequate controls are in place for the safe use and movement of lifting equipment on the mine
3. Monitor, plan and maintain all crane wire ropes, rigging and related equipment
4. Ensure adequate maintenance, repair and inspection of all lifting gears and ropes in accordance with statutory provisions
5. Ensure that relevant SOP’s are developed and adhered to for all work activities involving continuous lifting and /or lowering
6. Ensure that legal and related registers for all cranes, hoists, scaffolds, ladders, slings, snatch-blocks, lever hoists, ropes and man-cages and all related lifting gears are kept and updated
7. Inspect and certify all lifting gears in accordance with provisions of OSHAS and MHSA
8. Clean, measure and dress steel wire ropes and chains used on mobile, electrical overhead travelling or manual lifting equipment
9. Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools
10. Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules
11. Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials
12. Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques
13. Develop employees for the positions of Rigger/ Ropesman in accordance with the North Mara succession plan

Qualification requirements
Must be a qualified Rigger with a Trade Certificate from a recognized institution

Experience and Competencies needed
1. Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience as a rigger or ropesman
2. Demonstrated knowledge and skill competencies in safe lifting techniques, lifting gear selection, determination of weights and mass and crane movement directing
3. Verification of training and experience in operating various industrial machines such as Forklifts, Loaders, Overhead cranes, self-Loading Vehicle Cranes, trucks, mobile cranes etc.
4. Demonstrated ability to safely operate the above listed equipment
5. Must have a valid driving license
6. Excellence communication skills in English language
7. Must have the ability to operate with minimum supervision
8. High professional conduct at all times and the ability to deal with a diverse client base
9. Must train employee the necessary rigging skills to be ready for a trade test.
