Overall, Job Purpose
Responsible for growing Livestock financing through new business acquisition, processing and assessing credit applications from branches, put forward proposals for livestock business development and ensure booking of quality loans.

Job Description​

Key Accountabilities

Main Responsibilities

Customer Acquisition & Credit Assessment

  •   Identify and onboard livestock farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness enterprises.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and provide advisory support on financing options.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of the livestock sector in Tanzania, Livestock keepers’ needs and the wider need for livestock value chains financing
  • Assess loan applications from livestock farmers/agribusinesses.
  • Evaluate business viability, repayment capacity, and sector-specific risks.

 Loan Structuring & Disbursement

  •   Design financing solutions tailored to livestock cycles (e.g., dairy, poultry, beef, piggery).
  • Recommend suitable products such as working capital loans, asset finance, or insurance-backed credit.
  • Ensure timely disbursement in line with approved terms.

 Monitoring & Portfolio Management

  •   Regularly monitor financed farms/projects to track performance and repayment ability.
  • Identify early warning signs of distress and recommend remedial actions.
  • Maintain a healthy loan portfolio with minimal arrears.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to credit policies, sector regulations, and animal health standards.
  • Promote livestock insurance and risk-sharing mechanisms to safeguard both clients and the bank.

 Capacity Building & Advisory

  • Educate farmers on financial literacy, record keeping, and best livestock management practices.
  • Provide technical linkages with veterinary services, input suppliers, and markets.

 Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare periodic performance reports on livestock loan portfolio.
  • Document lessons learned, emerging opportunities, and challenges in the sector

Reporting & Meeting attendance 

  • Compulsory attendance at Credit Risk Committee, Business Meetings, Loan delinquency and collections meetings as directed by people manager.
  • Preparation and submitting of periodic reports or any report as required by management.

Education and Experience Required

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine (BVM) or its equivalent or related fields.
  • Knowledge of livestock production systems (dairy, poultry, beef, goat, piggery, etc.) and value chains.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of work experience in agribusiness financing, agricultural lending, or microfinance, with exposure to livestock clients.
  • Hands-on experience in credit appraisal, risk analysis, and loan portfolio management.
  • Familiarity with livestock insurance products, value chain financing models, and rural banking practices.
  • Field experience in conducting farm visits, livestock project evaluations, and client capacity assessments.

  • Strong analytical and financial assessment skills.
  • Ability to balance credit risk with business growth opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
