Job Description
The Power and Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of power systems and equipment that support the organization’s immigration systems. This role involves performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted operations.
Responsibilities
- Power System Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair power systems, including generators, UPS systems, and electrical panels, to ensure a consistent power supply for critical immigration systems.
- Equipment Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues with mechanical and electrical equipment, minimizing disruptions to operations.
- Preventive Maintenance: Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to extend the lifespan of equipment and reduce the risk of failures.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and regulations, particularly when working with high-voltage equipment.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and repairs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with IT and facilities teams to address power-related issues affecting immigration systems.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to power outages or equipment failures to restore operations as quickly as possible.
Knowledge and Experience
- Diploma or associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in power systems maintenance, preferably in industries with critical operations (e.g., IT, government, or immigration).
- Hands-on experience with generators, UPS systems, and HVAC equipment.
- Familiarity with electrical wiring, circuit breakers, and control systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations for working with electrical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
- Relevant certifications to enhance qualifications include but not limited to: o Certified Maintenance &
- Reliability Technician (CMRT) o Electrical Safety Certification (e.g., NFPA 70E) o HVAC Certification (if applicable) o OSHA Safety Certification
- Fluency in both English and Kiswahili (spoken and written).
- Previous experience in the aviation industry is a plus.
