Reporting to: Process Mechanical Supervisor

Duration: Permanent

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of mechanical equipment including pumps, conveyors, rock breakers, winders, refrigeration systems, compressors, fans, dosing systems, and overhead cranes. 
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards, operational procedures, and shaft maintenance regulations.
  • Maintain and repair Scamont pumps, Warman pumps, mono-pumps, conveyor belts, and rock breakers. 
  • Inspect all mechanical equipment in accordance with required safety standards and procedures. Operate lime dosing systems safely and efficiently to control pH levels as per Bulyanhulu procedures. Perform mechanical maintenance tasks in compliance with shaft regulations and maintenance controls.
  • Conduct daily and weekly inspections of winders. Inspect winder components such as sheave wheels, jack catcher spectacle plates, rope attachments, gearboxes, couplings, and drum bushes. Perform dynamic tests on winders and set brake air gaps. Operate winders to height/open hole and conduct front-end and back-end rope cuts and attachments.
  • Assist in incident/accident investigations and submit comprehensive reports within prescribed timeframes.
  • Maintain condensers and evaporators; charge and change ammonia in refrigeration plants. Change and balance fridge plant motors. Carry out oil filter changes and oil top-ups at refrigeration plants.
  • Service and maintain various compressors including centrifugal and screw types. Service compressor intercoolers and troubleshoot compressor dosing systems safely. Replace and maintain cooling tower components including spray nozzles, fans, and pumps.
  • Repair CCT fan gearboxes, change and align fan hubs, inspect and change fan bearings. Conduct brake settings and repair fan spider rings.
  • Perform maintenance on crane braking systems. Conduct load tests and inspect overhead crane structures. Inspect and repair overhead crane rope attachments.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Ordinary level certificate – Form IV
  • Fitter Full Technical Certificate (FTC) from recognized institution. 
  • Ordinary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3 Years’ experience in similar role. Experience in mining industry is added as an advantage

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good Communication Skills, English & Swahili
