Job Purpose
The successful candidate will ensure all applicable company, legislative, regulatory and customer safety requirements are upheld through appropriate control measures, including but not limited to Environmental and Contractor-managed operations, Develop, implement, and monitor environmental strategies that promote sustainable development.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and entrenchment of systems, best practices, minimum standards, policies, processes, tools, technology and enablers, ensuring integration across Energy, Water and Environmental (EWE) elements
- Designing and leading the environmental management system (EMS).
- Facilitate processes, interventions and programmes to determine and address business risk in EWE
- Establish and oversee communication structures and processes for issue resolution related to EWE
- Provide technical support to sites for adherence to specific EWE legislative requirements (e.g. air quality, water use, waste management and effluent permits)
- Oversee all audit requirements for the business (internal and external stakeholders (including regulatory bodies)
- Oversee contractor compliance to all applicable HSE regulatory and BU requirements
- Manage the EWE elements of the Risk Registers for the country and facilitate / assist with the Enterprise Risk Assessments
- Implement, oversee and consolidate all ABF auditing and reporting requirement
- Acting as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and partners on environmental issues
- Leads engagements through the layers of the organisation to drive a commitment to environmental performance
- Work with operating unit managers/leaders to align environmental practices with high risk and productivity needs
- Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses making use of the relevant investigation tool which will be determined according to the severity of the matter
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders incl. statutory bodies, Centre and all country functions
- Investigate incidents or near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Prepare and submit environment reports, and liaise with regulatory agencies on environmental compliance matters
- Build capability in EWE through mentorship and coaching, and implementation of programmes to build competence and commitment across levels and functions
- Oversee effective talent and performance management within function
- Ensure that the agreed Environmental targets and agreed KPIs are reviewed daily and report these monthly.
- Support the ABF annual HSE reporting process, compile, co-ordinate and submit the reports as required
- Promote and adhere to BU and Group procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to HSE, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
Job Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences and Management or a related field.
- 3 - 5 years environmental management experience, with a strong understanding of Environment regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and developing Environmental policies and programs.
