Job Purpose:
To lead mineralogical characterization and analysis for ore body evaluation, process optimization, and geometallurgical modeling, providing strategic guidance to exploration, mining, and metallurgical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and supervise all mineralogical analyses including XRD, XRF, SEM-EDS, EPMA, and optical microscopy.
- Develop and maintain geometallurgical models linking mineralogy to ore processing performance (recovery, comminution, flotation, leaching).
- Advise on ore variability, deleterious elements, and mineral liberation for plant design and optimization.
- Lead core logging programs for mineralogical sampling and deposit characterization.
- Manage mineralogy lab operations, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance/QC protocols.
- Train and mentor junior mineralogists and technicians.
- Author technical reports, resource estimation inputs, and processing recommendations.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD in Mineralogy, Economic Geology, or Geochemistry.
- Professional registration (e.g., P.Geo., EurGeol, or equivalent).
Experience:
- 12+ years in applied mineralogy with at least 5 years in a senior or managerial role.
- Experience with base metals, precious metals, or industrial minerals.
Competencies:
- Advanced interpretation of automated mineralogy (QEMSCAN, MLA) and geochemical data sets.
- Strong cross-functional communication (geologists vs. metallurgists vs. engineers).
- Leadership and lab management.
