Job Purpose and Key responsibilities

Job Purpose:

The role holder will be responsible for growing insurance and other corporate business within the branch catchment.

Supervising the day-to-day operations of the Branch by overseeing Underwriting, Claims and Administrative functions. The role will report to the Country sales manager.

General Responsibilities

  • Meet the various revenue targets as agreed on from time to time
  • Co-ordinate and supervise the branch staff and ensure that company policies and procedures are observed
  • Ensure accurate and competitive quotations are prepared and delivered promptly to prospective clients, brokers and agents
  • Develop and maintain excellent relations with Agents, Banks, Brokers and Saled Force Executives and other channels and ensure excellent customer service to existing customers and prospective clients
  • Identify and develop new distribution outlets
  • Gather marketing intelligence statistics to facilitate development of strategies to give the company a competitive advantage
  • Undertake initial underwriting of business to ensure sound acceptance of risk
  • Train the Intermediaries on the general insurance products
  • General management and administration of the branch office
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Provide quality underwriting services to minimise potential losses and improve profitability of the branch
  • Ensure effective management and incentives for agents and SFEs
  • Ensure provision of consistent, high quality and timely underwriting services to clients, sales force executives, agents and brokers
  • Provide quality claims management services for the branch to create competitive advantage over other players
  • Identify and manage claims service stakeholders and ensure they perform in line with Britam quality standards
  • Manage claims for the branch and ensure that loss ratio is within acceptable levels
  • Manage all expenses for the branch and ensure optimal use of company resources to improve profitability of the branch
  • Control and manage debtors’ ratio for the branch through timely premium collections
  • Implement targeted business development initiatives to drive product lines for the branch
  • Maintaining viable communication line with company’s top management so that they are aware and informed of market developments in central region by providing among other things periodic report.
  • Participates in recruiting, appraising and training subordinate staff
  • Training, developing and motivating staff to maximize their contribution to company’s objectives
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on production.
  • Champion supervision and utilisation of sales tools to derive productivity in the branch.
  • Manage sales costs to ensure Revenue and product profitability.
  • Delegated Authority: As per the approved Delegated Authority Matrix
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Deliver on performance requirements as defined in the departments strategy map, balanced score card and personal score card.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required

  1. Bachelor degree (Insurance and business related option preferred).
  2. Professional qualification in Insurance (CII certificate).
  3. Seven years’ experience in insurance/banking/financial services, 2 of which should be at supervisory level.
  4. Experience in Sales Training
  5. Experience in stakeholder management and working with various teams to ensure branch strategies are achieved.
  6. Superior listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to handle stressful situation appropriately.

Technical/ Functional competencies

  1. Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements
  2. Knowledge of insurance products
  3. Sales and marketing management skills
  4. Excellent organisational and analytical skills
  5. Report writing skills
