Role Overview
The Accountant will manage day-to-day financial transactions, maintain accurate financial records, ensure compliance with Tanzanian statutory requirements, and support the preparation of comprehensive financial reports. This position requires strong proficiency in accounting software, high attention to detail, and a solid understanding of internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Transactions & Reconciliations
- Manage daily financial transactions and keep financial records accurately updated.
- Process invoices, receipts, payroll, and statutory deductions.
- Enter and reconcile financial data in Tally, ensuring total accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate routine banking activities, including account management and bank reconciliations.
2. Statutory Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare and submit timely statutory returns to relevant Tanzanian authorities (including PAYE, SDL, NSSF, WCF, and City Service Levy).
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Support internal and external audits by compiling necessary schedules and documentation.
3. Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Enforce internal financial controls and ensure strict adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
- Review existing financial and administrative workflows to recommend efficiency improvements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Academic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
Work Experience & Technical Skills
Experience: 2 to 3 years of hands-on accounting or finance experience (relevant internship or entry-level experience is accepted).
Software Knowledge: Hands-on proficiency in Tally and Microsoft Office suite (especially advanced Excel).
Accounting Expertise: Strong foundational knowledge of standard accounting principles, financial controls, and local tax compliance.
Core Competencies
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High ethical standards, personal integrity, and commitment to maintaining financial confidentiality.
