TOBACCO LEAF BUYER

Job Summary

The Tobacco Buyer will be responsible for procuring quality tobacco from registered farmers in assigned regions, ensuring compliance with Tanzania Tobacco Board (TTB) regulations and company policies. The role involves field operations, farmer relationship management, grading, record keeping, and supporting seasonal crop assessments.

Job Description.

  • Purchase tobacco from registered farmers according to company standards and TTB regulations.
  • Grade tobacco accurately based on quality, moisture content, and classification standards.
  • Monitor and supervise tobacco collection centers during the buying season.
  • Ensure correct weighing, recording, and documentation of purchased tobacco.
  • Maintain accurate daily buying reports and submit them to management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contracted farmers and farmer groups.
  • Provide guidance to farmers on tobacco quality improvement and good agricultural practices (GAP).
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement procedures and government regulations.
  • Assist in crop estimation and field assessments before and during the buying season.
  • Prevent fraud, side-selling, and other malpractices during the buying process.
  • Coordinate logistics for transporting purchased tobacco to company warehouses.
  • Any other assignment as provided by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Crop Science, or related field.
  • At least 3–5 years’ experience in tobacco buying or agricultural produce procurement (tobacco experience preferred).
  • Good knowledge of tobacco grading standards and Tanzania Tobacco Board regulations.
  • Strong understanding of local tobacco-growing regions and farmer networks.
  • Must be Qualified by TTB and having certificate of Appreciation.
  • Experience working in field operations and rural environments.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Excel, Word, reporting).
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • High level of integrity and accountability.
  • Ability to work long hours during the buying season.
  • Valid motorcycle or driving license (added advantage).
