PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The purpose of this role is to provide technical and metallurgical support to ensure that the Process Plant achieves maximum metallurgical efficiency. The role is responsible for monitoring and optimizing plant performance, supporting production teams with technical expertise, and contributing to process improvements through data analysis, metallurgical test work, and operational initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy and Mineral Processing Engineering. Metallurgy and Mineral Processing.
EXPERIENCE:
• 2 – 4 years of laboratory or metallurgical test work experience, preferably in a gold processing environment.
• Hands-on experience in metallurgical sampling, laboratory analysis, and geometallurgical test work.
• Familiarity with laboratory instruments, calibration procedures, and sample analysis.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong knowledge of metallurgical and geometallurgical laboratory test procedures.
• Ability to conduct diagnostic test work like comminution, leaching, and gravity concentration test work.
• Competence in sample preparation, bottle roll testing, sieving, and XRF analysis.
• Proficiency in calibration of laboratory equipment and handling of laboratory reagents.
• Strong data capturing, analysis, and reporting skills.
• Computer literacy (MS Excel, databases, and plant/lab monitoring systems).
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Safety & Compliance
• Champion and enforce safe work practices in all laboratory and plant activities, ensuring compliance with statutory and company safety regulations.
• Promote a culture of safety by mentoring junior staff, leading toolbox talks, and proactively identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
Sampling & Plant Support
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise weekly, monthly, and quarterly crushing and milling circuit surveys, including belt-cut and milling/classification surveys, providing recommendations for operational optimization.
• Oversee grade control support by guiding sample splitting, submission, and validation processes in collaboration with the SGS laboratory.
• Lead and advise metallurgists in rise test exercises and resolve complex plant sampling challenges with minimal supervision.
Sample Preparation & Laboratory Operations
• Supervise and ensure the accuracy of sample homogenization, splitting, and preparation processes for physical and chemical analysis.
• Monitor and validate sieving operations, ensuring adherence to quality standards and accuracy of recorded data.
• Review and interpret daily bottle roll and re-leach test results, providing insights for grade control and metallurgical decision-making.
• Design, execute, and interpret geometallurgical test programs, including comminution, concentration, and leaching, to support process improvement.
Laboratory Test Work & Analysis
• Independently design, conduct, and analyze metallurgical and geometallurgical test work, preparing technical reports and presenting findings to plant management.
• Perform advanced analysis using XRF and ensure the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of analytical reports.
• Oversee calibration and performance verification of laboratory instruments (pH meters, DO meters, Mars scale, mass balances, etc.) to maintain high standards of data quality.
