OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Receive and carry out job instructions from Survey Technician III and Mine Surveyors (occasionally) in supporting open pit mine operation activities. This level is characterized by competence in operating survey equipment and executing field work accurately, efficient and timely

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Conduct periodic survey checks on active working areas to confirm alignment with mine plans and detect variances early.
• Support Mine Surveyors in capturing high‑resolution data for complex pit geometries, wall angles, berm integrity and safety compliance.
• Perform routine calibration of survey instruments and report faults immediately to maintain measurement accuracy.
• Execute rapid pick‑ups of urgent areas during unplanned events (slips, collapses, water ingress) to support operational decision‑making.
• Perform final positional verification of drill patterns before charging.
• Assist in capturing blast movement data post‑blast to support ore control and grade recovery optimization.
• Conduct post-blast pick-ups to accurately measure heave, back-break and crater profiles.
• Stake out crest/berm lines, haul roads, safety bunds, and pit access ramps according to updated mine designs.
• Confirm that mining activities remain within legal boundaries and environmental permit zones.
• Record and report deviations between design surfaces and actual mining surfaces.
• Conduct daily hazard assessments of survey working areas, especially near high walls, active equipment and blast areas.
• Ensure survey tasks comply with pit safety protocols and exclusion zones.
• Report on all safety concerns, near misses and potential ground instability.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Diploma in Geomatics or Land Surveying

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• At least (5) years working experiences as Survey Technician in mining industry or engineering projects.
• Competence in operating survey equipment
• Good communication skills
• Results oriented/driven
• Supervision skills
