Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) is a fully integrated beverage business in Diageo Africa (supply and demand for beer and spirits).
SBL flagship brand is Serengeti Premium Lager. Other brands in the portfolio include Serengeti Lite, Guinness, Pilsner and SIB. Headquartered in Dar es Salaam, SBL is also the distributor of several global Diageo international world-class spirits brands such as Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Gordon’s, Bailey’s and Captain Morgan.
About the role
The prime purpose of this role is to ensure that all aspects of MAKE Quality, including processes, activities, and systems at production facilities, uphold Diageo Brands' reputation by guaranteeing the safety and satisfaction of our customers and consumers. This will be achieved by establishing a continuous improvement culture with a relentless focus on areas such as finished product quality standards application, control of quality management and process management systems, regulatory compliance management, incoming material controls and assurance, assurance and validation of internal testing services, and assurance of stage-by-stage controls. This role is crucial in leading the implementation of the broader company Quality strategy, policy, and programs that promote a Zero defects culture, a priority identified for driving overall business ambition.
Key Accountabilities:
Strategic Quality & Compliance Leadership
- Leads the implementation of the quality management system, aligning site objectives with global Diageo OPEX standards, policy, and code of conduct.
- Ensures adherence to regulatory legislation, Diageo standards, global finished product specifications, and established protocols (ISO 9001, HACCP, FSSC 22000).
Product Release and Traceability Management
- Manages the active release of products, ensuring only approved, in-specification items move through production processes.
- Ensures effective track and trace practices (traceability) are maintained throughout all stages of the make processes.
Incident Management and Problem Solving
- Identifies, manages, and escalates quality incidents (ingredients, components, process, final product).
- Leads structured problem-solving efforts focused on corrective and preventative actions (CAPAR) for non-conformances and quality issues.
Continuous Improvement and Data Analysis
- Leads quality continuous improvement plans, including collation, monitoring, reporting of quality data, and identifying insights to drive targeted improvements.
- Manages internal systems to drive improvements and prepare for internal and external audits.
Equipment Reliability and Training
- Ensures the availability, calibration, service, and maintenance of all laboratory and inline equipment to guarantee accuracy of measurements.
- Trains and coaches’ personnel to ensure site-wide quality performance and adherence to standards
Qualifications and Experience Required
Qualifications:
- BSc in Food Science & Technology, Chemistry or Biochemistry.
- Certification training in QMS, FSMS, HACCP and FSSC 22000 is desirable.
- Overall, good knowledge of Quality and Food Safety legislation and standards.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in production or quality assurance, environmental and safety management systems within middle management level in FMCG.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of quality systems, brewing, Blending and packaging processes and legal requirements to the food industry.
- Experience of Quality Management principles and processes.
- Hands on Experience in Lab standards and development of Good Lab practices and systems.
- Influencing and leadership skills
- Audit and HACCP experience, application of six sigma
- Desirable –Knowledge and application of lean six sigma tools to min of yellow belt
