Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Build the capacity of target Socially Functioning Cooperatives (SFCs) and Collaborative Management Groups (CMGs) to implement sustainable marine resource management measures in local fishing grounds.
  • Support and collaborate with partner institutions in the facilitation and implementation of CMG and SFC plans.
  • Facilitate collaboration with partner institutions, including the District Council, local authorities, and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), to address biodiversity and seascape management issues.
  • Support the capacity building of relevant authorities and institutions to effectively deliver marine resource co-management in their respective areas.
  • Assist the Programme Manager in project monitoring and evaluation of conservation and social outcomes.
  • Support the development of incentives and motivation to enhance compliance with marine resource management measures.
  • Write reports suitable for submission to funding partners via the Programme Manager and maintain a project diary.
  • Participate in and support Mwambao Coastal Community Network and MCCC LTD initiatives for community coastal conservation.
  • Raise awareness both inside and outside project sites whenever possible.
  • Perform other duties as required from time to time by the Programme Manager and/or the MCCC Senior Management Team.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in fisheries, ecology, natural resources management, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least three years of relevant professional experience in fisheries and marine ecology within a Tanzanian context.
  • Knowledge: An understanding of, and sensitivity towards, the cultural and livelihood contexts of rural/local coastal communities in Zanzibar and Pemba.
  • Skills:
    • Proven ability to work effectively without direct supervision while functioning as a key part of a team.
    • Very strong oral and written communication skills in both Kiswahili and English, with the ability to build strong relationships with government and community partners.
    • Proficient in computer literacy, especially with MS Word, Excel, and internet use, and skilled in technical report writing in English.
