The Development Department of the Catholic Diocese of Zanzibar is a social development arm committed to promoting self-empowerment among marginalized and vulnerable groups in society—regardless of gender, faith, or race—so that every individual can realize their full potential in education, health, and socio-economic wellbeing.
In partnership with MISEREOR (the Catholic Bishops’ Organization for Development Cooperation, Germany), the Department is preparing to implement a three-year initiative titled:
“The Communities Empowerment for Justice and Governance (CEJG) – Phase 5 Project (1st September 2025 – 31st August 2028)”
This phase builds on the achievements of four previous phases and seeks to strengthen human rights protection, inclusive governance, and socio-economic empowerment in five Shehias of North B District, Zanzibar — Mkataleni, Misufini, Majenzi, Mahonda, and Kitope.
To ensure effective project coordination and sustainability, the Development Department invites competent, self-motivated, and committed individuals to apply for the following position under one-year renewable contracts (renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds).
Responsibilities or duties
- Manage and oversee all project financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with donor and diocesan financial guidelines.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets, expenditure forecasts, and financial reports.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate accounting records in line with international financial standards.
- Support procurement processes and ensure adherence to internal control systems.
- Prepare bank reconciliations, payroll, and tax compliance documentation.
- Facilitate internal and external audits, ensuring all audit queries are addressed.
- Participate in project planning and contribute to financial sustainability strategies.
- Ensure timely submission of financial reports to MISEREOR and the Development Department Director.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally) and MS Office applications.
- High integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Diocese.
Experience needed
- Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience, preferably in donor-funded projects or NGOs.

- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
