PIPE WELDER

Reports To: Piping Department / Construction Manager
Duty Station: Nyanzaga Site, Sengerema District
Job Overview
We are seeking skilled and certified Pipe Welders to join the Nyanzaga Project team. The successful candidates will be responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing high-pressure piping systems carrying water or chemicals.
The role involves preparing pipes, interpreting engineering drawings, executing precise welds in accordance with applicable specifications, and conducting quality inspections to ensure the integrity of welded joints.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication & Assembly
- Cut, bevel, align, and clamp pipe sections and fittings into position.
- Use power tools, flame cutters, and pipe-fitting equipment safely and effectively.
- Prepare piping components for welding and installation.
Welding Execution
- Perform high-quality, defect-free multi-pass welds in various positions.
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy, or copper piping systems as required.
- Follow approved welding procedures and specifications.
Blueprint & Drawing Interpretation
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Work in accordance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
Quality Assurance
- Inspect completed welds for defects such as:
- Cracks
- Porosity
- Undercut
- Lack of penetration
- Assist with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), including radiography/X-ray and hydrostatic testing.
Equipment Maintenance
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain welding machines and equipment.
- Maintain torches, regulators, shielding gas supplies, and safety equipment.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow site safety requirements and applicable OSHA regulations.
- Comply with relevant industry codes and project procedures.
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times.
Required Welding Skills
Candidates should be certified in at least one of the following welding processes:
- GTAW / TIG
- SMAW / Stick
- GMAW / MIG
Candidates must be capable of passing site-specific bend tests and 100% X-ray testing.
Required Experience & Technical Skills
- At least 3 years of professional pipe welding experience.
- Experience in industrial, construction, manufacturing, refinery, or similar environments.
- Proficiency in hand and power tools, including:
- Angle grinders
- Plasma cutters
- Pipe beveling equipment
- Oxy-fuel torches
- Strong measurement and layout skills.
- Ability to use calipers, micrometers, framing squares, and pipe alignment clamps.
- Ability to work to tight tolerances.
