JOB DETAILS:
The Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST); an institution of The Aga Khan Development Network, completed a major phase II expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam in 2018.

This expansion aimed at improving the Hospital’s quality of facilities and infrastructure to become an ultramodern 170 bed facility to increase its capacity as a provider of high-quality medical care leading to a tertiary care, referral, and teaching hospital.

The Phase II development focused on expanding key clinical services including a comprehensive cardiology programme, oncology services and neurosciences, as well as the expansion of Orthopaedics and Trauma, Diagnostic Imaging, Critical Care and Women and Child Health programmes.

The Hospital is JCI Accredited (achieved a level of quality and patient service that is equal to the best hospitals in the world) and the teaching site for The Aga Khan University, which offers Postgraduate Medical Education programs leading to Master of Medicine in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Paediatrics and Child Health.

It is also an accredited internship site. As part of the integrated health systems approach, AKHST plans to establish 35 outreach health facilities that are located across Tanzania. Currently, 26 such clinics have been established across the country and linked to the main hospital in Dar es Salaam.

Position Summary
• He / She conducts examinations to assess and provide treatment for dental mal occlusions, jaw anomalies and accidental facial deformities. He/she designs and fabricates appliances to realign teeth and jaws to produce and maintain normal function and to improve appearance.
• Conduct clinical assessments to determine the condition of patients’ teeth and treatment plans.
• Study patient records, including dental histories, plaster models of teeth and X-rays to develop treatment plans for patients.
• Review and interpret x-rays, impressions, and other diagnostic tests.
• Discuss diagnoses, treatment options, and costs with patients.
• To make collaborations with other Specialists, Dentists, and Oral Surgeons, to coordinate Orthodontic services within the overall treatment plan.
• Fitting patients for braces, aligners and other orthodontic appliances
• Administer medication to address patient discomfort during procedures.
• Scheduling regular checkups patients regularly to check progress and adjust as needed.
• Educating patients on regular orthodontic care and encouraging proper oral hygiene methods for good oral health.
• Prepare and maintain detailed patient medical records and orthodontic progress notes.
• Providing referrals to other professionals, such as oral surgeons, when needed.
• Ensures adverse events are reported in a timely manner and responded to according to the organization’s policy.
• Contributes towards administrative issues of Dental and Implant Centre with suggestions and to take up responsibilities assigned.
• To participate in training activities and academic sessions of department team, and other associated departments.
• Contribute to the departmental clinical quality assurance system, including regular clinical audit, review of patient care (length of patient stay, mortality and morbidity reviews, audit, and regular clinical meetings).
• Ensures all documentation complies with statutory requirements and professional standards.
• Any other roles assigned by the Supervisor or his/her Designee.

The requirements
Qualifications and Experience
• Minimum Master of Dental Surgery and Orthodontics form recognized institution.
• Minimum 5 years post qualification ‘experience working in a similar role.
• Must have valid Registration from the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT)
• Must have valid practicing License from the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT)
• Understanding of quality requirement of the role.
