The UNIDO Staff Performance Management System reinforces the collaboration within formal units as well as among cross-functional teams. In this context, the incumbent collaborates with his/her team and colleagues, in the country as well as in the region and in headquarters.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under guidance and supervision of the UR for the UNIDO FO in Tanzania (GLO/RFO/AFR) and working with other colleagues within the Regional Bureau and relevant project teams, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks in Tanzania and in other countries of coverage of the office:
- Lead the Secretariat for the Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) in Tanzania, preparing background documents, presenting workplan and budget, formulate minutes of meetings and organize steering committee.
- Lead the analysis of data for industrial development documents in Tanzania or other countries of coverage.
- Provide input and feedback on strategic documents, regional or subregional strategy or policy documents as well as country programming as relevant
- Lead the drafting of specific sections of project documents, related to the context and background of a sector of technical cooperation.
- Contact government and stakeholders to
- Coordinate with projects managers and experts and monitor results of project implementation in the countries of coverage and inform the joint UN INFO.
- Participate and play an active role in the coordination mechanism of the UN system, most specifically the Monitoring and Evaluation Group and some outcome groups, as well as in inter-agency and other partners’ groups and task forces as relevant.
- Support the UNIDO Representative in carrying out his functions, including:

- Manage relations with Governments of Tanzania and other country of coverage and write formal correspondence
- Manage relations with public implementation agencies, private sector counterparts and partners
- Formulate project and programme and mobilization resources.
- Lead the PCP cycle: formulation, establishment of partnership, implementation and monitoring
- Mainstream UNIDO into the UN-wide engagement, including in the relevant UNCT sub-groups
- Represent UNIDO in events and forum and draft required talking points, presentations and speeches
- Insure UNIDO communication, advocacy and media outreach/coverage
- Prepare and submit progress reports periodically, covering projects and office activities
- Perform any other duties which the UR may assign, including supervision of the administrative and operational activities of the UNIDO Field Office.
MINIMUM ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Education
Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in economics, agricultural-economics, engineering, international relations, business administration or other discipline closely related to industrial development is required.
Experience
At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of industrial sustainable development, with special emphasis on private sector development is required.
- Experience in technical cooperation, including project and programme coordination, monitoring and evaluation is required.
- Familiarity with national and international institutional, legal, and procedural frameworks, especially those relevant to the donor community, development actors, and the UN system in Tanzania, is required.
- Familiarity with the local socio-economic context, including trade and industrialization issues, particularly in regions where UNIDO has operational activities, is required.
- Proven analytical and communication skills are required.
- Experience in evaluating the needs, challenges, and growth opportunities in Tanzania or other developing countries in the region is desirable.
- Experience working with or within the United Nations system and/or government institutions is desirable.
Language
Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili is required. Fluency or working knowledge of other official UN languages is an asset.
